2026 Rubash Lecture: Trauma and Juvenile Justice
In this lecture, Dr. Micah Johnson offers a behavioral health framework for understanding how trauma and systems-level inequities shape youth wellbeing, safety, and pathways into juvenile justice involvement. Grounded in epidemiologic research, developmental science, and community based
data, he highlights protective processes and practical tools that support emotional regulation, conflict de-escalation, and resilience. Weaving biography with scholarship, activism, and performance-based community interventions, Dr. Johnson advances a trauma-informed, prevention-oriented approach that translates evidence into scalable strategies for strengthening communities.
This lecture was made possible by the Raymond R. Webb, Jr. & Norman J. and Alice Chapman
Rubash Endowed Lecture Funds and Pitt Social Work’s Youth Behavioral Health Workforce Fellowship
